Description
For sale a unique, two-sided, 3-room apartment with a balcony in a historic tenement house at Al. 3 Maja 2, in Warsaw's Solec – right by the border with Powisle – one of the most atmospheric parts of Srodmiescie. Ideal for a couple, family, or as a representative interior for conducting business or as a capital investment for long or short-term rental. HISTORY: The tenement house at Al. 3 Maja 2 in Warsaw, also known as Powisle, was built between 1929 and 1931 at the initiative of the Construction and Housing Cooperative Domy Spoldzielcze, founded on May 4, 1923, by activists of the Polish Socialist Party, including Kazimierz Puzak, Tomasz Arciszewski, and Jan Kwapinski. The building was designed by engineer architect Wincenty Oczykowski, and the construction manager was Jan Zacharzewski. The tenement consists of 6-8 floors and houses 196 apartments in 11 staircases. Due to its impressive volume, it was called Beijing. During World War II, the building was taken over by the Germans, who changed the street name to Bahnhofstrasse to remove the reference to the anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of May 3. After the war, the tenement returned to its original name. The tenement at Al. 3 Maja 2 not only offered apartments – it was also a center of intellectual, political, and social life in interwar and post-war Warsaw. Many prominent and well-known Poles lived there – mainly associated with politics, culture, and science, including: Wanda Kaminska (the matriarch of Polish mountaineering), Dobieslaw Damienski (actor), Zbigniew Religa (cardiac surgeon and politician), Mieczyslaw Dabkowski (general of the Second Polish Republic), Jan Zientarski (colonel of the Polish Army), Zbigniew Namyslowski (jazzman), Andrzej Woyciechowski (journalist, founder of Radio Zet), and many others. LAYOUT: The apartment with an area of 94.62 m2 includes: - room 1 with a balcony - room 2 - room 3 - kitchen - bathroom - WC - hallway The apartment includes a cellar. Height of the apartment: 2.86 m DESCRIPTION: Two-sided apartment with huge potential and for personal arrangement. The floor has original wooden parquet in excellent condition. Original doors to the rooms as well as a unique connection of two rooms with oak folding doors, which bear traces of bomb fragments from World War II. Marble fireplace in the hallway. Bathroom with separate entrances and a separate WC. Kitchen enlarged with a maid's room. Balcony with a view of the Poniatowski Bridge. Exposure north - south. Thanks to the location of the apartment, there is no shortage of access to natural light, and in summer, the heat is not overwhelming. BUILDING: The tenement at Al. 3 Maja 2 is an example of pre-war residential architecture with preserved original details, such as wooden elevators, railings, and entrance doors. The interiors feature high ceilings and carefully restored finishing elements. The building has been entered into the register of monuments, which attests to its historical and architectural significance. The tenement is surrounded by a well-kept courtyard. The building has repeatedly won awards in competitions for the most beautiful courtyard in Warsaw. Additionally, the building housed the archive of the Polish Socialist Party and the Workers' Society of Friends of Children. A well-functioning Housing Cooperative. The building has been renovated, with electrical, water-sewage, and gas installations replaced. Hot water is heated by a gas boiler, heating from the municipal network.
