Brief history of the place:

"The first mentions of Chalin are found in a document from 1282 confirming the ownership of Chalin and Swierczyn by Wladyslaw and Kazimierz – dukes of Kujawy. In the times of the Jagiellonians, minor landed gentry lived in Chalin, using the surnames: Niemsta and Bodzanta.

In 1825, Sylwester Chelmicki, the owner of the Chalin estate, built a wooden manor in the style of rural classicism with a broken Polish roof. During the partitions, Chalin was the seat of municipal authorities. Since 1919, the owner of the Chalin estate was Franciszek Zielinski (1880-1966), director of the Bishop's Gymnasium named after Jan Dlugosz in Wloclawek, a member of parliament from the Christian Democracy party.

During World War II, Chalin was incorporated into the Third Reich.

After World War II, the estate was nationalized. The manor was expanded on the western side in the mid-20th century. In 1949-1950 it was destroyed in a fire and subsequently rebuilt. Further renovations took place in 1957 and then in the 60s/70s of the 20th century.

The manor housed a school, which Lech Walesa attended in the 1950s."
