HISTORY:
The manor
from the early 19th century is a unique part of history, related both to the Teutonic Knights and later owners. Its origins date back to the 14th century when a guardhouse was built on the site of the future village, witnessing the clash of the Lithuanian prince Witen with the Teutonic Knights. This event became the starting point for the Marian cult in Heiligelinde (Swieta Lipka). After numerous transformations, in the 18th century, a baroque palace was built on the ruins of the earlier building. Despite a fire in 1806, Friedrich Wilhelm Louis von Schmidtseck rebuilt it around 1808. Subsequent renovations gave it its current appearance. In the 19th century, the estate passed into the hands of the Schmidt von Schmidtseck family and later the barons Schenk zu Tautenburg. It is worth noting that between 1870-80 the palace was inhabited by members of the baroness's family, including Count Richard zu Eulenburg-Prassen. By the end of the 19th century, the Woplauken estate covered 1124 ha, including Prömbock with an additional 165 ha of land. The owner was Adolf I. Georg (Schaumburg-Lippe from Buckeburg). After World War II, the area became a State Agricultural Farm.
ARCHITECTURE:The shape of the manor indicates that it has been repeatedly rebuilt and enlarged. It was erected in the 19th century on the site of a medieval building. Allegedly, the previous manor was wooden and was completely burned down by lightning, and after reconstruction, it suffered significantly during the passage of Napoleon's troops. In 1806 it was rebuilt as a brick building. Probably in the years 1880-1890, when the owner was Anna Schmidt von Schmidtseck, born Countess Eulenburg (from the Prosnian line), the manor was stylistically unified. The manor is basement, built of brick and plastered, single-story with a living level in the attic, covered with high gabled roofs. The main body is based on a rectangular plan with a risalit on the axis of the eastern elevation (from the farmyard) and a side wing added to the edge of the eastern elevation. In the front elevation (western) of the main building, there is a shallow, three-axis risalit on the axis. Inside, there was interesting carpentry (stairs, paneling, ceilings) and brick fireplaces.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE LOCATION:The historic granary is located in the village of Woplawki near Ketrzyn in the
Masuria region.
